The Final Blog for Sandy

I have a synthesizing mind. I do a lot of research from different sources, then write out what I have obtained in a language that most teenagers understand. I like to hunt for the unknown facts or weird ideas that no one ever thinks of or people are to timid to try. I also make sure my work is factual and check on my sources and look around at different sites to make sure everything sounds the same. I most often times paraphrase sites into smaller and simpler sentences when I can.

3 characteristics that I would use to describe myself are, exhibiting curiosity, experimenting with new ideas, and exhibiting respect for others viewpoints. I exhibit a lot of curiosity because I like to do a lot of research and I read in depth instead of just skimming most articles. There are also a lot of new ideas out there, and I enjoy being able to not only find out how to fix hair (because I am obsessed with hair) but actually be able to try the new ideas as well. Finally, I exhibit respect for others and what they have to say because when others ask questions or think something is one way I am sure to look up the real facts instead of just giving my opinion. I also enjoy reading what other people's blogs have to say.

In the end I learned a lot of new surprising facts about how to keep hair healthy and beautiful by using products just sitting in your fridge. I also found it interesting that you do not have to be accepted to follow someone else's blog, you just have to click and follow. I think that is pretty cool.

Repair Dry Beach Hair

Most teenage girls love laying out on the beach all day during the summer and soak in the sun. While this does leave you with a great tan, it also kills your hair.
Like most hair problems, there is a way to repair damaged, dry beached hair.

One trick to try is putting some milk on your hair in the shower after a long day in the sun to completely renew its former beauty. Another is before even hitting the beach, while lathering the sunscreen on your body, put it in your hair too. It not only protects your hair but makes it look shiny for the day.

Remember though, the easiest way to protect your hair from the harsh rays is to jut wear a hat from 10 am to 1 pm. (the highest UV rays occur then)

Top Foods for Healthy Hair

Before I even begin telling what the best foods are for healthy hair I should inform everyone out there that those supplements teenage girls are taking, you know like the prenatal vitamins, are not good for you! That's right, those type of vitamins actually often times backfire on you and damage your hair more than help it. So watch the intake of those pills and try more safe methods of hair growth.

Top 10 Foods:
1. Salmon. Those omega-3 do wonders for your scalp and if your allergic like me all you need to do is take the omega-3 vitamin everyday. (this one is actually safe)

2. Dark Leafy Greens. Spinach and broccoli produce the natural conditioner sebum for your hair while also producing the natural iron and calcium your body needs.

3. Beans Beans the lovable fruit. It keeps your hair from being so brittle.

4. Nuts. All types provide zinc and many other healthy nutrients for hair.

5. Poultry provide Protein. yum yum, as long as your not vegetarian poultry keeps your hair color bright and strong.

6. Eggs. Enough said.

7. Breakfast Toast and Cereal. Secret tip my mom used to tell me, make sure you eat the crust because that contains the most nutrients for hair growth.

8. Oysters. It contains zinc, so if your not a fan then don't sweat it because the other foods help you out.

9. Low-Fat Dairy Products. The calcium and minerals give your hair better growth and health in the long run.

10. VARIETY!!!! Make sure you aren't just stuck eating one type of food to try and make your health grow. Without a healthy, daily variety your hair will never get any better, in fact, it affects the hair cycle causing hair to grow even less and lose even more shine than before.

Tips for Shiny Hair

Eat plenty of foods with iron or take an iron supplement.
Deep condition your hair weekly.
Weird but true, leave lemon juice in your hair for 20 minutes and then rinse it out. You'll end up having extremely silky hair.
Lots of vitamin E is best.
Drink at least 8 glasses of water everyday and remember to get plenty of exercise and rest.
Massage your head for 5 minutes each night before going to sleep, it not only keeps hair shiny but promotes it's growth.
Mayonnaise in hair makes it more soft and manageable, while beer in hair makes it more shiny.

Right Way to Wash Hair

First off before even stepping in the shower, you should always comb your hair to get all the tangles out. Once you get in the shower, thoroughly wet your hair in warm, but not hot water to open up the cuticles and more easily get the oil and dirt out. Rinse your hair with cold water after to re-close the cuticles and add shine to hair.

Extra tip: I have oily hair so my stylist tells me to not use conditioner very often because it just builds even more oil. Also certain shampoos that claim to make your hair shiny add build up causing you to have to shower even more often to keep your hair that shiny. So before looking for the perfect shampoo ask your stylist which shampoo is best for you hair and which shampoo to avoid.

the Facts Part 2

The average person looses around 50 to 100 hairs a day.
80% of Americans wash their hair at least twice a day. (no wonder people get so many hair cuts!)
There are approximately 120000 to 150000 hairs on a person's head.
Hair grows about 1cm per month and about .3mm per day.
Your hair grows faster in warm weather, but humidity stretches your hair.
Cutting hair does not influence it's growth.
Female hair grows slower than males' and their hair is more dense.
Rubbing wet hair is not advised because hair is sensitive.
Hair is the second fastest growing tissue in the body, but many drugs can cause hair loss.

No Such Thing as Grey Hair

As you age your hair either stays pigmented or goes white. The grey appearance is only an optical allusion of pigmented and white hairs. The reason for these white hairs? It occurs because of a halt in the production of melanin by the melanocytes that create the pigmented color.
